3 Most Important Tech Trends of 2018

From Ransomwares to Blockchain, 2017 has been a digital transformation were so disruptive that organizations had several mild heart attacks throughout the year. If there was one thing had learned from 2017, it would be taking initiative and driving technology to wield business opportunity rather than catching up to it.

The enterprise software development landscape is changing fast. New technologies, management models and practices are proliferating rapidly. In fact, there is more change in the technology in last decade, than there ever was. These trends are likely to have a huge impact on how businesses interact with customers, as well as how employees work. Now let’s list those disruptive technologies which would likely to be the main trend of 2018.

1. Artificial Intelligence, Robotics, Intelligent Apps & Analytics

According to Gartner this Digital Mesh would be the primary focus of 2018.  AI will seep through every vertical of technology to create more dynamic, flexible and autonomous systems which can learn and evolve.

The output of such technology would be used in real world blending virtual and real worlds into creative, digital and well-connected environment.

Robotics will be deployed to automate processes and intelligent apps would connect people, devices, content and services to deliver enhance digital outcomes.  Here is a pitfall with regards to implementing AI.

Instead of focusing on dramatic AI experience from that of science movies, Organizations should focus on Narrow AI. Narrow AI, consisting of highly scoped machine-learning solutions that target a specific task (such as understanding language or driving a vehicle in a controlled environment) with algorithms chosen that are optimized for that task, is where the action is today.

Analytics is another area of interest that would not only help in making right decisions for people but also for machines. Analytics will scoop up the vast amount of data available today to make sense of what is most important, its trends and deviations. This insight will be crucial element of input for algorithms such as RPA.

2. Digital, Cloud and VR

The previous predicament that if you don’t have a presence and service offer in Digital you don’t exist is not entirely true with respect to 2018.  Digital Twin as Gartner named it would be a Digital representation of real world entity system.

Based on IoT concept, the real-world entity will have a linked virtual entity which would take to their counterparts, respond to changes and improve operation by adding value.

Despite the promise of hybrid cloud, we expect that many organisations will still go into 2018 trying to work out how to get real value from hybrid.  According to Gartner, Augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR) and mixed reality are changing the way that people perceive and interact with the digital world. Combined with conversational platforms, a fundamental shift in the user experience to an invisible and immersive experience will emerge. Application vendors, system software vendors and development platform vendors will all compete to deliver this model.

3. Block Chain and Security

Over the next year, there will be change when it comes to security, with threat detection capabilities embedded into platforms, supporting everything a business does from manufacturing to sales. The threat of cybersecurity disruption is greater than ever, and so we expect that in 2018 organisations will start doubling down on defence.

There is a need for end-to-end managed security infrastructure for the network, the developer and applications and this will be another primary focus of 2018.

Blockchain is a shared, distributed, decentralized and tokenized ledger that removes business friction by being independent of individual applications or participants. The technology holds the promise to change industries, and although the conversation often surrounds financial opportunities, blockchain has many potential applications in government, healthcare, content distribution, supply chain and more. However, Organization must take extreme caution must be taken when identifying the opportunities that can be used with blockchain.

These three trends set to be the major focus of 2018. It’s imperative to prepare for 2018 in technology frontier so organizations can have a competitive edge in offering solutions and products to the customers.  If you like to know more on how your business can benefit from any of these trends please contactus here.
