Remembering Abdul Kalam : The Teacher

Respected Abdul Kalam Sir,

I took few moments before writing this post. I wasn't sure whether I am worthy of writing eulogy to one of the greatest leader that nation has lost. How could I find the right words to describe the life you had lived and millions of people you have inspired? But then I remembered one of your quote “We should not give up and we should not allow the problem to defeat us.” And so I try, I would try my best to put down my thoughts on this eulogy.

Your multifaceted qualities made you Missile Man, Beloved President, Eminent scientist, Inventor, Most wanted bachelor, Veena Player or the best speaker with fashionable Hairdo. But that’s not how you wanted to be remembered. You were "The Teacher" till the very end and left us while doing what you loved the most, addressing young generation in a lecture.

When students were asked to keep silent and put finger on the lips, you encouraged them to ask questions. And at every opportunity you made yourself available to students, nudging them to dream, to explore their inner potential, and to be best in whatever they undertook.  For you had a vision for India, and you believed that students are the future of Nation.

Out of million things you taught us, there is one most important aspect that comes to my mind when I think of you. Your ability to remain simple and grounded at every situation! I cannot imagine the parties you were invited to, the stages you adored as a speaker and flocks of famous personalities who rubbed their shoulders with you hoping to get a pinch of your magic in them. You were a great leader who believed in simple things. Your profound wisdom and thoughts were based on humility.

A boy who used to deliver newspapers is the news in every paper of the nation today. We mourn your passing away with pride Sir, For I believe you are not buried but planted today, and I know for sure your spirit will continue to inspire and guide us to be best and offer our best to others.

I hope they have Veena and books in heaven for you!
Srivats

IT for SG50 : One Smart Nation

The red dot is buzzing with celebrations for its 50th birthday. Given its phenomenal rise from third world to first, Singapore's narrative in the first 50 years of independence is very clear. Cast out and left to fend for ourselves, our nation drew on its only resource, its hard-working people to survive and thrive. Going by the various initiatives, its also clear where the nation is heading in the next 50 years.

Speaking at the National Infocomm Awards in 2014, Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong said “Today, our government agencies are using IT in various ways, to serve citizens better – LTA in public transport, and URA in master planning,”

“We can go much further if we bring citizens, government and industry together in this endeavor: to identify issues, co-develop solutions, prototype ideas and deploy them effectively to benefit the whole nation,” He added.

From virtual Singapore which will let public to report animal sightings & traffic incidents to Cybersecurity, Singapore is harnessing the power of  Information technology to evolve as Smart Nation in every aspect.

Here are few exciting things on the way

1. Internet of Things (IOT) / Machine to Machine (M2M) Communications
2. Big Data Analytics (Making sense of huge volume of multi-dimensional data)
3. Cutting edge Sensors that track & report different phenomenon
4. Wearable Technologies with meaningful applications (monitoring health, Elderly Care etc)

According to the IDA, “a key component in this vision is the new Smart Nation Platform (SNP), which is built around three focus areas: Connect, Collect and Comprehend. This will further Singapore’s capabilities in pervasive connectivity by building new infrastructure and common technical architecture to support a smart nation ecosystem.”

As a Technology Company we are proud to be part of the Information Technology Ecosystem. We are more than glad to be able to contribute to the Technology Landscape in our little yet significant ways. Singapore is a country that lives in the future, striving after the best living standards for its citizens and cherry-poking leading scientists and experts around the world to come here to work. Singapore is a country of nanotechnology, biotechnology, electronics and top-notch medicine. With that in mind relying on Technology could open millions of possibilities in every frontier. Let's raise our glasses to SG50 ! Here's to our Smart Nation!

Thanks for stopping by and have a fantastic day!

Why & What you need to know about WPF

Few years ago Poheng Jewellery, one of our loyal customer, came to us with a requirement of Display management system. The system needed to be on the monitors of all the retail stores island wide to display Gold rate, Advertisement videos and any latest news. After careful considerations of many factors, we developed the system using Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF).  WPF was chosen due to the following reasons.

1. The ability to make very rich UIs relatively easily.
2. Easier animation and special effects
3. Inherent scalability
While some may have reservations over using WPF, over web based or other Windows platform for the similar situation, We believe WPF is a great desktop development platform. Microsoft designed WPF from the ground up to loosely couple presentation and business logic. This architecture allows us to use design patterns like Model View Controller (MVC) or Model View View Model (MVVM) in our development. These patterns not only separate business logic and UI, they also make it possible for us to unit test every line of code in the application

WPF is still considered one of the most suitable technology for many applications there are several reasons to it.

1. Its all about XAML

XAML is an XML-based language for describing user interface components such as text boxes, combo boxes, radio buttons, and so on. XAML is also used to apply styles to these controls. XAML is very similar to controls in ASP.NET applications. XAML is compact compared to the many lines of code to declare the same text box within Windows Form. It also offers better portability and scalability when transferred from windows to web.

2. Animation

WPF makes doing simple animations very easy. While there are many business application that may not require animations, there are some that needs some kind of animation to enable user to interact with the system such as server monitoring or sensex display system.

3. Screen Resolution

WPF is built for rich UI experience and this is also another proof for it. WPF has built-in facilities for handling different screen resolution similar to the way HTML works with screen resolution.

4.Data Binding

Microsoft has provided more robust data binding and many more hooks that allow the flexibility needed for complicated business applications using WPF.We can have improved productivity using XAML for data binding.

5. Community

Microsoft is pouring millions of dollars into developing WPF tools. There is a large community and many third-party vendors behind WPF. A simple search could yeild many interesting websites such as CodePlex.com . Many vendors have also updated their control packs to support WPF. With such support its becoming vital for programmers to learn WPF and explore the possibilities.

If you have questions about creating a web or windows based WPF application, please dont hesitate to contact us for a free consultation and quote. Also check out 5 reasons why you shouldn't choose a large consulting firm for IT services. Thanks for stopping by and have a fantastic day!
