Business Intelligence for Business (2/5): How AI is transforming BI

Business Intelligence for Business (3/5): Big data and BI

Technology advances daily and the landscape of Business Intelligence, and its increasing importance evolves. With BI analysts being an integral part of company direction and strategy, it's critical to keep up with these 5 emerging trends in 2020.

1. Augmented analytics

Augmented analytics uses machine learning to automate data preparation, insight discovery, data science, and machine learning model development and insight sharing for a broad range of business users, operational workers, and citizen data scientists.

Gartner says, as it matures, augmented analytics will become a key feature of modern analytics platforms.

Gartner predicts that, by 2020, citizen data scientists will surpass data scientists in the amount of advanced analysis they produce, largely due to the automation of data science tasks.

2. Graph Analytics

As the size and complexity of data collected by organizations grow, so do the questions and problems they strive to answer. Many of today’s complex data questions are beyond the capability of traditional analytics. Graph analysis may be able to answer some of those more complex questions.

Graph analytics refers to a set of analytical techniques that allow for the exploration of relationships between entities of interest such as organizations, people, and transactions. Put simply, they can efficiently model, explore, and query data with complex interrelationships across data siloes.

3. Artificial Intelligence

This is one of the major trends chosen by Gartner in their 2020 Strategic Technology Trends report, combining AI with autonomous things and hyper-automation, and concentrating on the level of security in which AI risks of developing vulnerable points of attacks. Artificial intelligence (AI) is the science aiming to make machines execute what is usually done by complex human intelligence.

4. Data Quality Management (DQM)

The analytics trends in data quality grew greatly this past year. The development of business intelligence to analyze and extract value from the countless sources of data that we gather at a high scale brought alongside a bunch of errors and low-quality reports: the disparity of data sources and data types added some more complexity to the data integration process.

5. Relationship analytics

The emergence of graph databases, location, and social analytical techniques have redefined relationship analytics — how different entities of interest, such as people, places and things, are connected. Analyzing unstructured, continually changing data can provide users with information and context about associations in a network and deeper insights that improve the accuracy of predictions and decision-making.

So there you have it, the top 5 BI trends for 2020. This is not the extensive list but gives you an idea of what we would expect in the year to unfold in BI. Let me know what you think about these trends and how are you planning to leverage them in 2020.
